Thank you, Beta Testers!

We owe you an enormous debt of gratitude.  Your input and feedback around our latest Beta releases -- Site Navigation, Activity Feed, and Status Updates -- has been incredibly valuable and because of it, we're able to make significant improvements to those features that will benefit every user of deviantART.  We sincerely couldn't do it without you.

The information and data gathered from those Updates will be used to ensure a smooth site-wide launch, and we again thank you for all of your help.  As sometimes happens in the Beta process, the Status Updates submitted in our test period need to be deleted to make some of the changes you requested.  This will likely take place mid-next week.  But, we encourage you to please keep testing, coming up with unique ways to take advantage of these features.

Since Monday, we’ve received over 3,000 comments, nearly 100 bug reports, and extensive feedback regarding these new releases -- and Beta Testers have published over 7,000 Status Updates!  Pretty impressive.

We will continue to make adjustments and fix bugs, will be rolling out these features to more deviants in the next week.

More deviantART Than Ever Before

Around the clock and across the world, deviantART staff have been working to not only evolve the way our community interacts with one another, but enhance the ways we discover and talk about works of art. These upgrades enrich the deviantART you love into an even more magnetic, kindred experience while retaining everything that makes us deviantART.

We’ve seen comments that some of our new features remind deviants of functionality best-known on social media sites.  But there are aspects of these functions that will benefit the deviantART community and enhance our daily experiences, so it makes sense to embrace them.

The core of deviantART will always remain the same, and the same artists will be around for you to interact with and draw inspiration from.  Only now, their ability to reach you and other future watchers is enhanced and streamlined, and we guarantee the results and reach of creators will be staggering.

As one of our Beta Testers, you've been given a glimpse into the way the lives of our deviants are about to be changed forever, and we couldn't be more honored that you were the first to see them and help us refine them for site-wide release.

Thank you.

~Heidi

Hello Heidi,
I just went to the Contact Help Desk to report an abusive User who created a group solely for attacking a user.

But now it's set up so we CAN'T contact the help desk anymore.

Here's some advice, change it back so we can talk to the admin also change it back so we can report art thieves,
bullies who try to get others to commit suicide and a more user friendly system for the help desk.

Here is some actual feedback:
Make the menu "stuck" , because when I scroll art in browse and get far far down it , it requires me to scroll all the way up again, manually. And that can take a while.
Or type in Deviantart. And that is just a poor design choice.
I saw a neat script once that allowed the menu to follow along when you scrolled down, you should adapt that. Or add the button on Tumblr that sends you up again if you want to. Like an arrow.
I saw that the group submission system on images are broken.
If it shall be on the right side, make some space , perhaps 2 cm from the right.

Since dA switched over to tags, you can no longer find art in the search results. The results will only display art that has the 'search words' in their summary or title.

I find it a little frustrating that I can't see my points directly in the task bar anymore, but other than that I love all the new features and looks great.

After beta testing this for almost 2 weeks, here's my feedback:

CONCERN
My biggest concern is that you PLEASE DO NOT change the message center into a feed-type page. I am sure there are other users like me here: I cannot stress how ESSENTIAL it is for me to have things organized and grouped, like the message center allows one to do now. With just a feed-type page, I just would not be able to deal with DA messages, at all. I'd rather unwatch everyone and bookmark the pages of just like 10 artists and check their pages manually, as long as I can be bothered, and/or migrate out to another website. That would seriously be a deal-breaker for me, after almost 10 yrs on DA.

BUG on Activity Feed page
When you uncheck Collections for a deviant from your Manage Activity page, or unwatch them completely, their collection additions still show up on your Activity Feed page, even after refreshing, and even days after the fact.
Status: filed bug report

SUGGESTION re: Status Updates
These should display somewhere that's not just the Activity Feed page and the Activity Widget, so that all watchers are made aware of a new status update, regardless of whether they check the A.F. page or all the deviants' userpages. This way, when someone, say, announces an upcoming livestream, everyone is notified on time.

SUGGESTION re: Message Center, et al location
Still finding it difficult to click on just the drop-down for the messages and not the Share buttons underneath, when on deviation pages. Moving the whole deal to the center would be more handy, as other users have also noted.

My personal use (if you want to know what members are doing with the newly available stuff, this is one member's use ;p)
I personally have found no use for the Activity Feed page, and will not be using it, as I personally do not like the chronological display, endless scrolling, and lack of organization by message type, but as long as it just stays a separate page like it is right now, I don't mind. I just won't go there and that's it; for those who like it, yay.

Likewise, I will not be enabling the activity feed widget on my profile, as I think it just doubles what's already there through other widgets, and is less organized and customizable.

Can't wait to see the updates. I hope the new activity feed will be more easy to use with options to help us use it :)
AND the return of "daily deviation", I really hope an easy access to it will be there.

there is one thing i would like to know and i have no clue if it is a bug problem or not.

I hope this is not some other update because it is getting on my nerves , every time i try and copy a link from the Google search bar or links to the journals or art.

it comes up with the thumb , and i did not even copy the thumb link in the first place.
Please do not be a update, i still half stressed trying not think of this site as a half bred Facebook . someone has reported the issue because no one knows if it's a update or some bug because it does it on Google chrome and firefox but not IE .

someone please explain to me

I've been getting the same, starting this week. I keep having to hit Ctrl-E to switch to HTML mode.
Right now there's really no difference between pasting the fav.me link vs the thumb code :/

It happened to me too! So far, it's only done it once for me, and it was only in the artists comments, not comments on other pieces or replies to other people. I've asked about it to, but no one's told me anything.

I don't know if it's a bug or a new feature (the last one would be really troublesome, actually), but you can always use the HTML-mode (Ctrl+E) whille working with links - it doesn't transform them to thumbs.

If I can't see the DDs under messages, just like before, I'm not going to check them from now on. I usually click on them if a thumbnail catches my eye, but with them gone from under Messages... yeah, you get the idea. =/

People are afraid of change.

I wonder how many people will "LEAVE" dA because of this...

I really have gotten use to this change. It's nothing really big. Plus I barely use Facebook anyway so yeah. It doesn't bother me at all

the one thing that does bother me is the people who say "this is not a social networking website".  If memory serves me right, THIS IS A SOCIAL NETWORKING SITE for ARTIST LIKE YOU AND ME. Now of course social media follows bandwagons sometimes but seriously...

Plus the staff does listen to us... give something a try before automatically hating it. They read everything. Though sometimes I wish some things could've been different but it grows on us like the symbols and the new deviation page. So yeah.

My main con with this idea is getting rid of the footer on the bottom where I see DDs, Deviousness, Journals, and polls from dA. I want that back. Also maybe move the message/feedback bar back to the center. I got use to it but still, I kinda miss it in the middle.  And dispose of the home button! It's a useless feature

The issue is that they are ripping of another social network page , ignoring the dislike for the menu to be on the right side, forcing on a status update similiar to facebook update.
This is an art site, not a place to tell what you ate for dinner. Well sure you can in a journal.
I do not want to be flooded with pointless everyday stuff, at least allow us to turn of Active feed so we do not have to see it.
The layout is just ugly, even on Facebook.

That is not a hate for change, it is a dislike to poor design decision they make to appeal to the social network people from Instagram and Facebook.
Also let us not forget : Money, money, money.

We are not members, we are not customers , we are just moneybags hun.

 Yes. I can understand that the header looks a LITTLE bit like Facebook and the Activity Feed, BUT, their feed on this idea is different than Facebook's. Nuu  I think deviantArt could have been more specific from its point of view and not say that they admired another site. BUT THE TRUTH IS, the Activity Feed is basically showing us what is going on with your watchers that includes groups.Gallery  Of course Facebook is all about sharing what you're doing but deviantArt's take on it is showing art and journals that has been shown. Facebook may have that feature to add photos BUT it cannot show feed from like journals or anything. But you can EASILY turn it off or just ignore it the Activity feed which people are not getting. Another thing, trust I really don't like the new message thing that much but the only thing that really is different is the positioning and the friend thing. I have to admit, it does look like the Facebook friend request thing, but deviantArt has a different take on it. But I wish it didn't change.

It doesn't matter how many say it's not change, IT IS A CHANGEGrump  and people aren't going to like it. The new design is considered a a CHANGE. Facebook and Instagram are the trends now and in order for dA to keep its true rankings up, it has to follow bandwagons.... In my personal opinion... They really didn't need to change, but I got use to it and just let it be. Of course, I want dA to be original, too and it still is. Just because they added hashtags (which was...er) and made an activity feed page and new navigation bar, doesn't mean they're not original with the rest. Instagram and Facebook are really copying each other and not to mention, Instagram also has a similar layout to Tumblr,  while DeviantArt still has its original ideas. hmm  They aren't changing much, but it's still a CHANGE and people are going to dislike it. But I won't use the Activity Feed anyway so I suggest if people don't like the Activity Feed, DON'T USE IT!.;) (Wink)  You don't have to go to the page for it! COMMON SENSE. But yes, I don't really like the message bar though I'm use to it.  Another thing...I DON'T LIKE FACEBOOK EITHERFacebookChainsaw ...so that's why I wish they can change the message thing back to the center.

deviantART deviantArt is not only a Social Media, but also a BUSINESS!Nuu  In order for its website to stay, it needs money, right? Now of course we are members. But there's a shop right? Bucktooth  Those are for CUSTOMERS! The customers are the ones who pay the site. Not everyone is a customer. So we are all members no matter what. Did you have the luxury of customizing your profile at the beginning? No. Now you have the luxury of doing that why? Because someone either gave one to you with points(that I'm sure they had to buy) or money, or you bought one with money. People who want those luxuries have to BUY in order to get those things. NOTHING IS FREE FOR LUXURIES. So the fact that you say we are not customers doesn't make sense. Some people are members and customers. Now, the company can sometimes use money the wrong way. TRUST ME ON THAT ONE. Like that time deviantArt used their money to make the new deviation page look like Youtube's status. Disbelief That was horrible...so they wasted their money on that useless feature but then changed it back. Now I hope they use the money we paid them to make it right cause dA listened to us on that claim. Aww So don't take everything they do for granted. :) (Smile)

Another thing people don't seem to understand... IT'S THEIR WEBSITE. Nuu  They can change whatever they please. The good thing though is that they let us beta-tester try it out first before automatically changing it. I know that doesn't happen all the time but for this one, yes. So I think dA will make some renovations for what we have said.  They may even make the Activity feed look different and more sorted.  So yes. Life isn't always gonna have original designs, but the idea for it may be different than what you guys will take it as. :stinkeye:

NOW IF THEY CHANGE THE WHOLE WEBSITE TO LOOK LIKE FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, OR ANY OTHER POPULAR SITE, then there will be hell to pay. Heartbreaker Angered But I don't think they'll EVER do that.

Anyways. I hope you can understand. I don't if for sure this is their take on it, but yes.

I WANT THE FOOTER BACK THOUGH....OTL

I am unsure if you even looked on the design on beta :  Deargods by Queen-Soulia this looks awfuly alike the status update of Facebook and it is,
I pressed it , and behold you can add text.. well that sounds like FACEBOOK. So yeah it is a status update copy of Facebook.

Sub and points
Sub Was given to me for free by a friend.
My points are donations

Wrong with this website :

- One of the admins begged for money on his birthday, and he is a millionaire , so he could buy a water-well in africa and name it after himself, no credit to us. He is rich, why ask us who are poor for cash? Because he can. That would be Angelo if I remember correctly.

- Given DD more then 3 times to people who copied artworks of Japanese artist, refusing to remove the artwork to withdraw the DD even with proof. After a while the tracers themselves removed it.

- Just ignoring feedback all and all. I am not OK with a professional company ignoring consumers, that is just being a terrible company.

But I like this website because my friends are here, so yeah, I will keep saying the choice of design is bad and trust me they will change it.

I think we are not being ignorant to change. Like some mother/father refusing to learn how to use the internet, because you know VCR's are cool.
I think I am ignorant to ripping of website designs and pretending like : " Hey look I made something new and cool and hope everybody likes it."
And if that makes me a slow-minded nay-sayer. Then yes, I am one.

Oh my goodness thank you! I don't understand what all the fuss is about... Do people want dA to look like a 90s webpage? It IS a social networking site, just for a specific population. If dA were just a gallery with no social networking properties at all, we wouldn't need journals or widgets or forums or chats!

After using the activity feed this week I have another suggestion: unwatch specific collections. Some of the people I watch fave art I really don't care to see...but those same people often have other lovely collections I WOULD like to look at. If this is already a thing, somebody clue me in! :XD:

I think one thing to help streamline the new status feature is to make it an individual widget on a deviant's page rather than attached to the Activity Feeds. This will give deviants more options and flexibility with their page designs.

Seriously hoping for a way to choose what kind of content appears in my activity feed, and a widget just for status updates. That would be super-awesome :D
Also, I'd love to see the Daily Deviations box back at the bottom of my message center. That was quite nice, and the page just feels lacking now :(

If you guys think that DA will listen to us for one second, unless it has something to do with money and premiums, think again.

They'll probably stick to the horrednous new layout, and lots of users will leave, but they won't care because some people are gonna pay their whole life savings buying llama bowties and points, and buying 20-year premiums because SCREW ADBLOCK EDGE AND HAVING MONEY!!! And deviantart will only care about those users and won't give a damn about the rest.

...If you seriously don't think it's gonna go down this way, I pity you.

Pretty much. Combine this with shitty admins who don't give a fuck if your artwork was stolen and you provide pictures and evidence and even layer the photos on top of each other (happened to a WONDERFUL artist I watch who quit DA, yeah), and horrible reports that trolls make (yet ANOTHER artist I watch had this happen, and now they can't get back their writings and pretty much quit DA as well), and you got Devianshitart, the worst art site imaginable!!!

Thanks, but I'd rather take my chances with FA (Furaffinty), the darkest hellhole on teh interwebz. I'M THAT DESPERATE NOW THANKS TO DA!!!
