This year had us worried! How could we possibly top the awesomeness of 2009's "Be Fella's Valentine Coloring Contest" which garnered over 8,000 amazing entries?!

After brainstorming with resident Contest Mastermind, `betteo, we came up with a new idea where deviants would be able to create and submit their contest entries right on the contest news article. Bam! We hoped this would give us the edge, and once again, the community blew our expectations out of the water. Over 45,000 entries were submitted in just two weeks and we were amazed at the sheer creativity and imagination behind each entry.

Our sincere thanks to all who participated! You really proved that the deviantART community knows how to show the love. Check out the top 100 winning entries below — their creators will soon be exactly four stress balls richer!

Your Lovable Judges,
$trowlandson, $laurenkitsune, $reiiz, `betteo, and $Heidi

A note to our winners: Please hang tight! A deviantART staff member will be contacting you shortly to arrange shipment of your Emoticon Stress Balls. Thank you for participating and congratulations!

Just out of curiosity, were the 100 winners suposed to recive something? some kind of prize mentioned above? Like a random batch of emoticon stress balls? I'm wondering beacuse I am one of those winners, an I have yet to recive anything. Its not the fact I dident recive anything that bothers me, Its the fact that i am being compleatly ignored by those who organized this contest. I have tried to make contact a number of times, and have yet to get a responce.

I dont care so much for getting anything, just the fact that I was chosen was nice enough. I just dont think its right being ignored.

heres my submision:

Just gonna leave this right here:

"Valentine’s Day is our favorite time of year to come up with fun and exciting community-centric contests!

Here’s the challenge: We want to see you immortalized in huge pixels! Using the contest tool below and only solid colors, create a self-portrait. Portray yourself as creatively as you’d like! It can be an accurate representation, an aspect of your personality, how you picture yourself — anything you want, as long as it embodies you.

And the reward is big! One-hundred winners will receive a set of ultra awesome Emoticon Stress Balls, courtesy of deviantWEAR.

Dazzle us, wow us, and put yourself in pixels! It’s as easy as clicking the pretty squares. Try it! It’s fun!"

"Rules-
Please read the following rules carefully:

Show the Love is open to all deviantART members (anywhere on planet Earth, and beyond).
Submit as many entries as you'd like. The more you enter, the more chances you have to win!
All contest entries must use solid colors. No gradients or patterns.
All contest entries, whether created with the contest tool or downloadable contest template, must be submitted as a deviation to: Contests > 2010 > Show the Love.
The contest begins on February 12th, 2010 at 1:00 PM Pacific and ends February 28th, 2010 at 11:59 PM Pacific."

It says you have to use the Flash-made template or the downloadable...they didn't say you could use anything else, nor did they say you could animate..

My only issue, looking back on this contest, is that people with animations won.

I was unaware we could do such a thing, because the rules said to only use the program. I would think animating things would require use of another program, and that's not fair for people who don't have said program, or for those who didn't know they were allowed to use it.

If I would have known it was allowed, I would've done an animation.

That's no a question, but I'll answer it anyway:

Columbus egg is a figure of speech. Legend has it that Columbus' discovery of the new world wasn't well looked upon by a couple of people he had dinner with after his return. They sad it had been an easy thing to do, nothing worth the fuzz.
As an answer, he gave them a riddle: How to position an egg on the table so it stands upright without falling over?
They all tried, they all failed. Columbus then hit the cooked egg's bottom with a bit of force onto the table so the shell broke and the egg could stand without help. The people all complained that this solution was so simple again and they didn't know it was allowed to do that or that the egg was cooked at all.
Columbus then answered that it was the same thing: Everyone could have done that, but he was the only one who actually did it.

In other words, thinking outside the box.

I suppose that makes sense.
I'm still a little miffed, but I know I can't do anything about it.

Thank-you for taking the time to explain this to me.

Also, please don't correct my grammar when your spelling is horrible ;)

Right, because you have to be a chef to tell someone their soup tastes like shit, uhuh. So far people didn't have big complaints about my spelling, odd thing too.

But whatever. Seems you're just such a person.

I just thought the whole point of the conest was for everyone to have the same resources, so you were judged soely on your ability to make art with the program, not how flashy you can make it __

No, your just whiny, all of them were better than yours and you should learn to except that most people have better art than yours. and some peoples art is worse than yours i didn't make one because i didn't feel the need to win something that costs $5 and i knew i wouldn't win.

I really don't see the point of calling people names. Its just disrespective, offensive, and to some abusive. And to make things clear, I do accept that there are better artists out there than me and I respect them highly. I even ask them for advice most of them time. Not to mention I don't do my art for the prizes, I do it for the fun that it has to offer. I already knew I wouldn't win because I seen better ones than what I had posted, and had already accepted that I wouldn't be a winner in this contest. I was mostly surprised at the fact that some of those that were really good didn't make it.

Your argument is invalid for the simple reason that you used the word "disrespective" which isn't an actual word.
