Top Level Domain (TLD) is the technical name for ".com," ".net," ".org," or ".fr". These TLDs are controlled and issued by a worldwide organization called ICANN, short for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. When ICANN announced that it would accept applications for new TLDs, deviantART quickly realized that someone would try to nab ".art."
DeviantART is committed to have the .art TLD in the hands of representatives of the arts; people who know something about the Internet and the way art is presented and enabled by the Internet. Improved DMCA Reporting System

Hello, deviants! In an effort to keep the community informed and to provide the best possible experience for our members, we wanted to inform you of changes to our reporting system.
DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
In the past, we took reports by the copyright holder in two different ways: An informal report via the Report Violation tool and a formal complaint via contacting the Help Desk. While both of these methods were effective, they presented many setbacks.

The informal report did not gather all the necessary information for a formal copyright complaint and was prone to misuse by well-meaning deviants who would attempt to report images they did not own the copyright to

New deviantART ThumbnailsHey folks!
You may remember a while back we showed off some brand new thumbnails in #hq's Journal. Well, after many weeks of porting and tweaking based on community feedback, we finally got these brand new thumbs ready for beta testing!

UPDATE (May 19, 2012): Based on feedback received, we've updated the new thumbnails to be justified. Thumbnails are now spaced out across the rows, making them flush against the left and right sides of the page. When a browser's window is too small, justification cannot happen without leaving larger awkward spaces. In these cases, justification is turned off and thumbnails become left aligned. We think these changes present the most appealing interface for both cases.

Well now you can upload an image, simply by sending an email!

Here's how to do it:

Go to your settings, under the Apps and Uploads section

Enable the option to "Let me upload using email"

This will give you an email that looks something like devlant+92965@sta.sh

Now write an email addressed to the email you have been given

Give the title of the image as you email subject

Put the description of the image as the email body

Gallery Makeover ProjectHello everyone

Recently my team and I worked tirelessly on a project to help improve the gallery descriptions and thumbnail examples. While that project was indeed tedious with almost 4,000 categories in our system, it was also educational. What I learned from sorting through thousands and thousands of categories was that we have a lot of redundancy and a lot of categories that seem to have been created on a whim that are now simply homes for junk.
Over the years, the desire to appease niche communities and people who just wanted a specific area has led to some categories that go up to 4 levels deep, and it's really no wonder it's so confusing for people to figure out where to submit their artwork.
The conclusion I've come to is simplicity. While I'm not about to rip apart everything and make 6 stand alone categories, I do believe that there is a lot we can do to simplify the category tree. That includes some of the following:

The Premium Content Platform launch is a staged release. All members are currently enabled to buy content. However, only a small segment of deviants have been granted the privilege to sell. That makes sense, but this article makes it sound like anything can be sold using Premium Content Platform. If that is the case, how is it any different than the buyers copying and pasting the picture?

The idea of selling comics through DA instead of what I'm doing right now (hand e-mailing PDFs) was really exciting to me at first, until I realized that it would charge people in DA points. It would be nice to be able to sell to anyone like prints where people can pay in real money who don't want to sign up for a site to pay money for Disney land money to buy something.

I got excited because the notice in my inbox said "sell your comics!", but then I realized after putting together the PDF for my comic that I can only be paid in DA points, which are utterly useless to me. Is there any word on if or when users like me will be able to sell premium content on DA for something a little more substantial than arcade tokens? Or am I missing some way to turn these points into money without being a paid DA user?

Hi there! You can submit Premium Content whenever you like. It can all be done from the Submit page, just select Premium Content in the right column when submitting, and you'll be prompted to go to Step 2 in order to set it up. If you want to remove Premium Content from one of your deviations at any time, you can do so by editing the deviation. I hope that helps!
