DeviantART is proud to announce our Premium Content Platform

Providing the ability for content creators to become sellers and generate real earnings by making digital files of their high-quality work available for download. Sellers are able to set their own prices while retaining 80% of all revenue earned, and buyers are able to quickly get the things they want with the satisfaction of supporting the artists they love.

What is Premium Content?

The Premium Content Platform was built to represent high-quality content — the premier pieces in an artist's repertoire of work. We encourage the sale of everything from comics or stories for download, to high-res files like .PSDs, textures, tutorials, brush packs, and more!

What are Points?

DeviantART Points are a virtual currency that can be used to buy virtual and real goods on deviantART. Points can be purchased using a credit card or PayPal, and one U.S. dollar is the equivalent to 80 Points. A buyer making a Premium Content Platform purchase must use Points for the transaction.

Supporting Artists, Empowering Buyers

The majority of work on deviantART will always remain free. Members and visitors will still be able to browse and download millions of deviations at no cost. The Premium Content Platform was built to represent the premier pieces in an artist's repertoire of work. Our aim with the Platform is to provide a place where artists are able to sell their work and feel empowered and dignified by receiving a deserving share of the earnings. Buyers are able to directly support the artists they love through purchases made on the Premium Content Platform.

The Premium Content Platform launch is a staged release. All members are currently enabled to buy content. However, only a small segment of deviants have been granted the privilege to sell. Over the next few weeks, more and more deviants will be given the privilege to become sellers. Those who have the ability to sell will be notified with a Hot Topic notification in their Message Center.

DeviantART is proud to announce our Premium Content Platform — sellers are able to set their own prices while retaining 80% of all revenue earned, and buyers are able to quickly get the things they want with the satisfaction of supporting the artists they love.

How would this work with written pieces?

Written works usually don't get the option to be selected as Premium Content.

I do have one question though. If the premium content (that was purchased and the points in one's earnings haven't been withdrawn yet) was deleted, will the points gained from this purchase be deleted as well? :O

We need to make it so sellers of Premium content can see the ID of those who purchase.  Let the artists know who is supporting their work!

That makes sense, but what about purchasers who don't want to be identified?  There are privacy and anonymity issues involved for the purchaser which I think should take precedence over the wishes of the seller, just as in any other "online" type purchasing.

I'm curious what the privacy and anomymity issues are for the purchaser.  A purchase of Premium Content on DA is not broadcast to the entire community.  It is private between the buyer and the seller.   In almost every other marketplace on the internet buyers and sellers are not seperated like they are here (Etsy, eBay, Amazon, etc).  Where else in "online" type purchasing is the buyer completely occluded from the seller?  Also, many people use psudonyms on DA so there already is a fair amount of privacy simply because people use something other than their own name.  Letting a seller know that "IDrawUnicorns" purchased Premium Content from the sellers page doesn't appear to be a breach of privacy at all.

I've purchased some Premium Content.  I was suprised when I found out the seller did not know it was me who purchased the content.  I would guess that most people purchasing the Premium Content aren't aware that the seller cannot see who they are.  It is not an advertized (or even talked about) feature except here in this thread.

Also, if your content appears elsewhere on the web for free or for sale, you'll be able to narrow down the suspects. That way you can either contact your lawyer to help you receive monetary damages as those purchases could and should have been yours, or, you could contact the deviantART Help Desk and have the admin team put some disciplinary actions in motion.

would fan art be in violation of the "content that is original to you and/or that you have the full authority to offer the content for sale"? if someone commissioned a image of a character from a tv series or something?

Yes, you do. When you've sold something, dA will notify you and then you can choose whether you want points or cash (Paypal or check).

Not sure what's really going on here. So far I like (the art, the diversity) that I have seen. All looks very complicated, but I guess that I'll learn as I go. I've just thrown out a couple of my paintings as a way of wading into this. Will see what happens. Oh yes, compared to most (all) of you, I'm nearly computer illiterate.

So is this only for .pdf sales? Like, multiple page documents?
That makes sense, but this article makes it sound like anything can be sold using Premium Content Platform. If that is the case, how is it any different than the buyers copying and pasting the picture?

Can we add some suggestions here? If so, why can't we also have the, (Withdraw with, a) check, b) PayPal. c) dA Points)) in the commissions widget? >:U I mean, we can't always stick to dA Points all the time. Some people here need this because they need the money. REAL Money

The idea of selling comics through DA instead of what I'm doing right now (hand e-mailing PDFs) was really exciting to me at first, until I realized that it would charge people in DA points. It would be nice to be able to sell to anyone like prints where people can pay in real money who don't want to sign up for a site to pay money for Disney land money to buy something.

I guess it's still e-mailing PDFs for us :(

But the buyer still has to buy DA points to be able to get the product. I believe what DemonRoad is saying is that he wants the buyer to be able to use real money instead of DA points.

I got excited because the notice in my inbox said "sell your comics!", but then I realized after putting together the PDF for my comic that I can only be paid in DA points, which are utterly useless to me. Is there any word on if or when users like me will be able to sell premium content on DA for something a little more substantial than arcade tokens? Or am I missing some way to turn these points into money without being a paid DA user?

Hi there! You can submit Premium Content whenever you like. It can all be done from the Submit page, just select Premium Content in the right column when submitting, and you'll be prompted to go to Step 2 in order to set it up. If you want to remove Premium Content from one of your deviations at any time, you can do so by editing the deviation. I hope that helps! :)

Hi there! You can upload multiple files as Premium Content and sell them as one purchase, yes. When you select Premium Content in the right column of the Submit page, you'll be prompted to go to step 2, at which point you can upload all of the files you want to offer for sale, just upload all of the files that you want to sell and make sure that they're all selected, and they'll be included in the download when someone buys. :)

Hi, there. Just passing by. :)

Any member can use premium content (buy and sell) without any regular fees. :aww:
BUT you only get 80% of the price you enter. :( So, it's just like the commission widget...

->"Paypal" Options in the photo. But no way to actually get real currency to transfer into paypal? I remember taking a survey for deviants with a premium membership. I took the survey and gave my opinion about what should be added to premium memberships. Im sure many others had an opinion about having more payment options options like paypal. We should be paid in real currency. As an artist I thinks its great I can promote my art here; I don't mind paying for a membership to get more benefits.

Payment Options would help a lot of artists start making a name, or pay for another premium membership. Yes you can earn points, but points don't pay the bills, Our memberships probably pays yours.
Some deviants don't like to pay through paypal, they probably earn points through donations because they cant afford them. If we could convert points into cash or into paypal, I wouldn't mind being charged a small percentage fee of some sort.

Yes this is my opinion, but im sure a lot of people could agree with me. It would definitely make a huge difference for artists using DeviantArt.

If this is just a bug please fix it soon....
