It's a small world ...
At some point in late 2007 I stumbled upon an episode of an Australian-made television drama called McLeod's Daughters and for whatever reason, totally fell in love with it. $
Waveswinger and $
trowlandson can attest to that fact, as I updated them regularly about whatever episode I had seen most recently -- even though they much preferred I didn't.
I fully realize that McLeod's Daughters isn't an accurate representation of Australian life (in the same way that 90210 and The Hills don't accurately portray Hollywood). Even so, I love the show. Shamelessly. It's a total guilty pleasure and I'm not afraid to admit it. I even told a few of my new Aussie friends at the Sydney deviantMEET and they hardly even scoffed at me. I figured I'd be losing cool points left and right, as I have yet to find anyone else in 'real life' who watches the show.
Being American and visiting Australia in hopes of seeing someone from McLeod's Daughters is no different than being Australian and visiting the United States in hopes of seeing Brad Pitt or Angelina Jolie. Odds are slim to say the least. So, it's with great excitement than I can update the following ...
McLeod's Daughters sightings = 0.5

That's right, friends! The world is a crazy place and through much randomness, today I met the Art Director from the original McLeod's Daughters telemovie.
$
spyed and I had a meeting earlier with Andrew Plumer who is the CEO of Ballistic Media. During the course of our meeting, Andrew mentioned that he and Ballistic are based in Adelaide. Being the big McLeod's Daughters fan that I am, I knew that the show was filmed in Adelaide. Later, as things were wrapping up, Andrew asked $
spyed and I what we thought of Australia and if we'd had any opportunities to see the sights. I mentioned wanting to visit Adelaide one day because of McLeod's Daughters and then, shocker of all shockers, Andrew told me he used to be in art direction and worked on McLeod's. We briefly chatted about what was involved with getting the show made and he gave me a bit of inside information about the filming locations and sets.
Good times! Best times! Australia, I love you.

P.S. - If you attended the Sydney deviantMEET, please leave a comment on my Profile Page. I'd really like to check out everyone's gallery and stay in touch. I'm also trying to put together a master list of everyone who attended. I can't imagine a better group of people to kick off the Tour and I sincerely thank everyone for coming out!P.P.S. - Legend of the Seeker is the new McLeod's Daughters (which was the new Gilmore Girls) and everyone should watch.

Ride, side by side
touching the fire in the soul of ours, tonight as we ride
into the moonlight
fear, step aside
run and hide I'm not afraid to risk my life as we ride
into the moonlight
And Legend of the Seeker looked pretty cool.
Glad Sydney turned out so well!!
