This is me

This is a little something that Ayame-Kenoshi and I built last weekend during our Wilderness Survival Clinic. The shelter was about 5 feet by 5 feet, had 6 inches of grass padding on the floor, and an arm's length worth of insulation for the walls. Not bad for first timers!  ;)

Connecting you with your watchers.

The Watch Feed creates a sequential stream of activity from your watchlist, including deviations, Journals, Collections, Status Updates, Polls, Forum threads and Critiques. Status Updates let people share quick updates about what they’re working on or what inspires them. Find an awesome deviation? Share it in your Status Update.

As we designed our upcoming Mobile app, we understood the need to build something streamlined and direct to deliver what you want to watch. The Watch Feed was built for smartphones and tablets. While we love the robust tools available in the Message Center — and they’re not going away — the Message Center is not an environment that works well on mobile.

Connect With Your Watchers in New Ways

The Watch Feed and Status Updates let you connect with your watchers in ways not previously possible. In the Watch Feed, deviants can easily interact and comment on artwork and content shared by your watchers.

"With Status Updates, I am closer to the people I watch, which I feel adds a deeper sense of appreciation for their artwork. It's nice to know who is behind such incredible work!" —CrypticGrin

Status Updates

The Watch Feed also includes Status Updates — a new way to easily communicate with your watchers.  Status Updates are a great way to share quick updates. Give the world an insider’s peek at a work-in-progress or let your fans know you’ll be livestreaming a drawing soon. Share the work of an artist who inspires you, talk about current events, or start up a conversation that could reach new audiences!

“I've been wanting an easier way to notify my watchers of things. This makes it easier with the Status Updates, instead of having to make an entire Poll or a Journal for a small issue or update.” —TheWickedBeast

Resharing Content

Using the “share” button, you can easily redistribute interesting content or Status Updates to your watchers. Using Status Updates and the “share” feature, trends, news, and art will spread through the community like never before.

Controlling Your Watch Feed

If an item is removed from your Message Center, it will also be removed from your Watch Feed. You can customize what appears in your Watch Feed by editing your Manage Friends settings for specific deviants.  (These settings apply to both the Watch Feed and the Message Center.)

If you choose to unwatch a deviant's content (for example, Journals), existing Journals will remain in your Watch Feed; however, future Journals will not appear.

Heidi. Female. American. Tall. Sarcastic. Athletic. Bossy. Financial enthusiast. Olympics lover. TV/fandom fanatic.

I've been fortunate to be involved with deviantART from day one and have held a variety of positions over the past thirteen years. Today, I'm deviantART's Vice President of Marketing.

I graduated college with a Journalism major and Political Science minor, and enjoy all aspects of news and politics. I can often be found watching Fox News, CNN, or CNBC during the wee hours of the morning.

When I'm not working, my hobbies include playing and watching almost all sports (basketball, softball/baseball, volleyball, football, tennis, etc.), traveling, geocaching, investing, and trying to be as funny as humanly possible. When it's time to relax, I'll turn on the television or read a book.

I also used to run, which was pretty epic during its heyday.

Bolt Award

For her outstanding work with deviantART, Heidi is presented with the illustrious Bolt Award for 2008. Heidi is the embodiment of community spirit, dedication, and drive that makes deviantART what it is today. Her positive attitude and inspiring personality has been an influence on the formation of the site since the very beginning, and without her, deviantART would be a much duller and less magical place.

I mentioned some changes and really wonder how this crap could be the result of people who are on DA at itself - These changes are just ideas from marketing-only minds. But i´m not here to offer my personal behavior or just consume, if i would, i wouldn´t be on DA. I would be on Twitter, Facebook or all this other social bullshit stuff.
Now i feel relegated to an unwanted part here, to the art-creaters. The new navigation is hell for working with it, but well, maybe it´s quite nice for mobile device users, but this people didn´t create art, they just consume with fickle attention. And if DA troll out all artists, the consumers wouldn´t feel much loyality for DA without art.

So please, review why this changes had been made, and what kind of people decided it, and for what reason.
Btw.: For the guys with the money: Not even the value worth of DA will rise through more short-time members, cause every one who would invest money would also check the reasons for such a spontaneously appreciation. And this is a perfect example for a economy bubble. Inflated market value at the cost of the worth of tomorrow.
Another point are the new everyone-can-see-what-everyone-does settings. Facebooks history tell us how good this Stasi-like behavior of sites work. Unfortunally the Facebook-guys allready made ther money with it, now it´s too late to make money with the same fuck about. If you want to sacrifice peoples trust for money, you have to be quick, and than run fast like all the other locusts.
At the moment its close to an legally question if you can activate ads concerning to personal informations without even ask of inform the users, that´s close to data-theft(Hey, DA´s lawyers may say this is a controversial statement, but the people who hit the "leave" button surly would have another perspective). Even these ads and settings are made by mistake(then just axe the programmers) they are insultingly stupid. Most of the creating and community-strengthening people are paying members, so they got rights, and place value on quid pro quo.
The actuall things happend in real-world politics as well as on the web show that people are more fearsome than ever before to get disregarded ther self-determination, and angry, if you treat them like DA actually does. If someone behind the site missed to see this - send ´em back to buisness school, but please, don´t sacrifice DaviantArt.

One question:

Why there are always new ads and widget and stuff updates that noone wants? Take a look at your journal, noone wants this. So why are you and the staff are doing this?

Many people here hate things like facebook. So why do you want to create a second facebook here?

I understand that there are people who want this, but why don't you think of the other people, too and make a fast navigation menu to disable stuff like that? And why does it start enabled allthough I don't wanted it? Really, it feels like you think we are your own property when we logg in and those ads are activated without beeing asked.

Yes, you will get more facebook useser with that. But most of them will not create art or something and some artists will leave. In one or two years when art isn't the focus here anymore, the people will think: What I am doing here? I have a facebook account so I don't need an account here.

I made the experience that people of marketing jobs are thinking about things right now and don't think about the future. There was a research study in Germany where people where asked: what do you want? 20 € now or 40 € next week and most of the asked students took the 20 € now.

So what do you want? 20€ now or 40€ later?
Jinx-Ruby Featured By Owner Oct 15, 2014  Hobbyist Artist
I agree with that whole comment. It is good to have a chat with My friends once in a while, but this is mainly about art. Or at least it was. 20€ now or 40€ later? I think 40€ later. There is always more future ahead of me than the past behind me. The present day will never last. The future will alwas lie ahead. This website may as well be called devaintBOOK.

It feels good not to be alone with that thoughts. I cannot understand why people like heidi only reply to good comments and ignore the rest allthogh the rest ist the greater amount.

I hope they will change it back and try to keep their members with the possibility of disabling things we don't want. I really can understand that other people want that, but why do I have to buy a smartphone to use DA properly?? I cannot create art on a smartphone -.-

yes. In life, you can 't improve on things if you dont want to listen to critisism. if people tell you what you are doing wrong, then you know what you can improve on.

What device do you use for devaintART? it works fine on PC.

Keep up the good work! I appreciate all of the effort you guys put into making deviantART awesome! I don't think you get the appreciation you deserve, so there's some well-earned praise!

Please quit asking me to sign in all the time. The verify your email thing is VERY annoying and making me want to leave dA for a long time, posting my art elsewhere.

Over the weekend, a handful of deviants experienced random and repeated logouts during their deviantART sessions.  This problem was due to technical issues on our end, that have seen been resolved.  We apologize for the inconvenience.
