How do you find other deviants?

DeviantArt is an expansive community with over 35 million registered deviants.  As such, it can be hard to find people you know, or artists you might be interested in watching.  As part of our recent initiative to simplify and unify the DeviantArt experience, we're looking into new and easier ways to find help you find deviants you want to interact with.

We recently posted this question in the Forums to get a sense for how best to improve these circumstances, and now we're interested in hearing from the community at large.

How would you like to find other deviants?

Example ideas for improved connections include:
  • Deviants based on artist type
  • Deviants my friends watch
  • Deviants near you/deviants by location
  • Deviants recommended you watch
  • Search by username or e-mail
  • Search by topic, hobby, or fandom
  • Deviants who are online
  • New deviants
:lightbulb:  If you have ideas not included here, please share them in a comment!

United States
Heidi. Female. American. Tall. Sarcastic. Athletic. Bossy. Financial enthusiast. Olympics lover. TV/fandom fanatic.

I've been fortunate to be involved with deviantART from day one and have held a variety of positions over the past thirteen years. Today, I'm deviantART's Vice President of Marketing.

I graduated college with a Journalism major and Political Science minor, and enjoy all aspects of news and politics. I can often be found watching Fox News, CNN, or CNBC during the wee hours of the morning.

When I'm not working, my hobbies include playing and watching almost all sports (basketball, softball/baseball, volleyball, football, tennis, etc.), traveling, geocaching, investing, and trying to be as funny as humanly possible. When it's time to relax, I'll turn on the television or read a book.

I also used to run, which was pretty epic during its heyday.

Current Residence: Earth
Favourite genre of music: Christmas songs, jams from the 80s
Favourite style of art: Pixel art, photography, fan art
Operating System: Windows 7
MP3 player of choice: iTunes
Shell of choice: Lobster, shrimp, clams
Favourite cartoon character: Bobby's World, DuckTales, Bionic Six
Personal Quote: I'm not stubborn, I just refuse to settle.

Bolt Award

For her outstanding work with deviantART, Heidi is presented with the illustrious Bolt Award for 2008. Heidi is the embodiment of community spirit, dedication, and drive that makes deviantART what it is today. Her positive attitude and inspiring personality has been an influence on the formation of the site since the very beginning, and without her, deviantART would be a much duller and less magical place.

Seriously? A change in dA? DON'T DO IT!... however if it gives an option that we can change from the "simple" website to how it is right now, it's fine with me

Don't "simplify" the site, PLEASE! Join the rebel if you agree!

Could you guys just be serious for once and stop acting so childish? All i see in the comments are people not wanting deviantArt to change. I personally don't like the new deviantArt logo and the upcoming changes myself. But I find it funny how people are ranting like 5 year olds. Heidi doesn't deserve to have her inbox spammed with all sorts of hate messages. She has worked so to make deviantart a place to enjoy, and maybe these changes would be good after all. And who cares if there was a poll deciding wheather or not there should be changes, deviantArt has the power to do whatever then want. Grow up.

Thank you for saying what I was thinking.

I agree with you. People in the comments aren't children [well, some of them] and they need to act more mature for this certain person.

I agree that some ppl are probably going overboard with all the hate spam...but there is also the fact that some people feel the need to come here and say something bc they do feel so unheard...bc they do not feel the deviantart staff is listening to them when they say their opinion about something. But I also don't think that saying "grow up, deviantart can do what they want" is very fair because there are so many people using this website that whatever the staff wants to do will affect.. They have a right to their opinion about what they think the website should go through because they do use this website, and probably more often than the staff.. Though some people are being extremely whiny and going overboard with it and stuff.. its not exactly valid to throw out the "they can do as they please" thing when there are hundreds of people that are going to be affected by those changes..

In that case, may I propose a more mature approach to these changes: A Petition Opposing Site Simplification.

A site this big must listen to its member at least once in a while, otherwise they shall eventually go out of business due to a lack of customers/visitors.

I agree that she doesn't deserve to be spammed; she has worked hard to try and help us and I do appreciate that; but surely you'd think she would at least take note of the amount of complaints associated with the new site changes or post some sort of journal in response to them. I agree that this site could do with some improvements and fixes, but the site simplification only would cause more confusion and problems than it would solve.

You feeling the knives at your throats yet?

Maybe if you fucking listened and made polls for the users to decide what is necessary for change and what's just a cover up of your last 100 fucking messes and mistakes, you would have less people leaving this fucking shithole that used to be DA.
