This is me

It's easy to take for granted how cool it is to live in the future. Well, it's the present at the moment, but it's only been a few years now that technological advancements have enabled us to connect with hundreds of thousands of people all across the globe at the push of a button.

I'm not exactly the first to proclaim that the Internet allows amazing personal connections, but join me for a moment. Right now, you're reading these words on your phone, on your laptop, on your Nintendo DS browser. Maybe you're in the room next to me, maybe you're halfway around the world and we can make an Earth sandwich with two pieces of bread. Somehow you've made a connection to me, to DeviantArt, in the hopes that I will bring you quality entertainment -- no pressure.  ;)

But even beyond all that, you come to DeviantArt to connect with a talented artist, an author you admire, a photographer who inspires you -- and perhaps you pay it forward and connect with someone who would learn something from you about your craft. You post a deviation and a complete stranger :+fav:s it -- maybe someone who was too shy to say hi and wanted to make a connection, or maybe someone who found it while browsing and will become a close friend in the future. Each of us has a whole lifetime of stories to share with one another, and we're all here, connected, in a way that wouldn't be possible without the Internet.

The Internet facilitates all kinds of relationships and connections -- that's old news.  Even so, sometimes it hits you as you're conversing with a deviant you've never met, who moved around the world to be with someone they had never met until Twitter brought them together, talking about a TV show you've never seen, but learned about via fandom on DeviantArt. What a time to be alive, eh?  2015 has it all.

What about you? What's your favorite personal connection story facilitated by the Internet?

P.S. - You are cool, and I am proud of you.

United States
Heidi. Female. American. Tall. Sarcastic. Athletic. Bossy. Financial enthusiast. Olympics lover. TV/fandom fanatic.

I've been fortunate to be involved with deviantART from day one and have held a variety of positions over the past thirteen years. Today, I'm deviantART's Vice President of Marketing.

I graduated college with a Journalism major and Political Science minor, and enjoy all aspects of news and politics. I can often be found watching Fox News, CNN, or CNBC during the wee hours of the morning.

When I'm not working, my hobbies include playing and watching almost all sports (basketball, softball/baseball, volleyball, football, tennis, etc.), traveling, geocaching, investing, and trying to be as funny as humanly possible. When it's time to relax, I'll turn on the television or read a book.

I also used to run, which was pretty epic during its heyday.

Current Residence: Earth
Favourite genre of music: Christmas songs, jams from the 80s
Favourite style of art: Pixel art, photography, fan art
Operating System: Windows 7
MP3 player of choice: iTunes
Shell of choice: Lobster, shrimp, clams
Favourite cartoon character: Bobby's World, DuckTales, Bionic Six
Personal Quote: I'm not stubborn, I just refuse to settle.

Bolt Award

For her outstanding work with deviantART, Heidi is presented with the illustrious Bolt Award for 2008. Heidi is the embodiment of community spirit, dedication, and drive that makes deviantART what it is today. Her positive attitude and inspiring personality has been an influence on the formation of the site since the very beginning, and without her, deviantART would be a much duller and less magical place.

What's the point of giving people things they don't want? Benefits? Advertisement. Downsides? Anger of the community. I think it's better for the site to have happy, satisfied users than to have some (although I don't know any) profits from spamming them. I'm talking about Promoted, of course.

I'm going to echo everyone else and ask that you please allow us to opt out of the "Promoted" content. It's fine as an option, but I'd rather not have to deal with extra material that I'm not interested in seeing. I can find my own art. Requiring people to pay to not be bothered with this is awful. The concept of promoted content is fine *as an option* but this is really unpleasant.

Please, for the love of God, stop sending me "art" (people fishing for customers to download their program). I'm not subscribed to the "artist" nor am I interested in their "art" in any manner.
No, I will not pay for a Premium account on this site where I've been bullied, stalked, threatened, etc. A person shouldn't have to pay money in order to have a good experience on an art site!!

Could you not put pictures from people I don't follow in my inbox. I'm not here to meet new artist.
I just want to share my art with friends, as I like seeing theirs, and theirs only.
If I want to see other art I'll just browse the frontpage.
So, please make that promotion group an option instead of just dropping stuff in my inbox.

Can you please stop forcing the Promoted group from appearing in our inboxes? It's very annoying and quite rude.

I don't know if anybody has asked this yet, but why are we (the community) not able to upload any deviations? It loads 100% but then it says Error

Hey, I have to tell you this, but is it true that DeviantArt is going to delete every account that has Stupid name, because most people are scared that they don't want there DeviantArt, On May 21, 2015

The 'All Accounts but Plz Accounts will be Deleted on May 21st, *Insert Year Here*" is a load of Horseshit, the same thing showed up in 2014 and possibly 2013 as well.
